Reinforcement acceptance before cover: bars, spacing, laps, hooks, chairs and drawings discipline.
- Bar grade & diameter per drawing (Fe500D etc. — IS 1786 marking)
- Steel test certificates vs lot/heat numbers on bundles
- Bars clean: free of loose rust, mill scale, oil, mud
- Spacing & count vs drawing — tolerance applied
- Cover to reinforcement per exposure (Cl 26.4.2 & Table 16): 20/30/45/50 mm; footings ≥ 50 mm
- Development lengths & laps per BBS; stagger verified
- Lap length zones: compression vs tension per Cl 26.2.5
- Stirrup/link hooks: 135° with 10φ ≥ 75 mm extension (IS 13920 Cl 6.3/3.4)
- Column ties/dowels projection & laps into members
- Chairs/spacers adequate for top mat; no collapse under load
- Welded/mechanical splices only where approved
- Bending per IS 2502 dimensions; no re-bending fatigue
- Congestion check: vibrator can pass between layers
- Drawing revision used is the latest; RFI raised & closed
Note: Every open item is a hold on the pour — reinforcement is the one trade you cannot re-inspect after concrete covers it.
